Delhi raises ‘resurgence’ of Khalistan movement with West

With reports coming in of a new generation of the Khalistan movement leadership popping up in western countries, a worried New Delhi has raised the issue with the UK, Canada and the US in recent months.
South Block will also be taking up the issue with the German government in the next few months, sources said, when they meet to discuss counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries.
The issue has rung alarm bells, especially after Lt Gen (retired) K S Brar and his wife were attacked in London by suspected Khalistan sympathisers. Brar, who had led Operation Blue Star in 1984, suffered neck wounds.
New Delhi feels that a new string of Khalistan leaders is on the rise, with Gurmit Singh Aulakh, who claims to be the president of the Council of Khalistan, quite active.
South Block took up the matter “very strongly” with the British government when the joint working group on counter-terrorism cooperation met the past few months. Concerns have been conveyed to the Canadian and American counterparts as well.
According to sources, these countries also want to take action against the Khalistani activists. Britain has assured taking appropriate steps.
The new generation leaders and foot-soldiers in the pro-Khalistan movement are essentially citizens of these countries.
India has also expressed willingness to send resources if the need arises, including for de-radicalisation of youth of the Sikh community
