More dangerous than shariah: Hindutva

o keep up the purity of the Race and its culture, Germany shocked the world by her purging the country of the Semitic races the Jews. Race pride at its highest has been manifested here. Germany has also shown how well-nigh impossible it is for Races and cultures, having differences going to the root, to be assimilated into one united whole, a good lesson for us in Hindusthan to learn and profit by.

The ultimate vision of our work ... is a perfectly organised state of society wherein each individual has been moulded into a model of ideal Hindu manhood and made into a living limb of the corporate personality of society.

– Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, RSS supreme chief

MIDDLE EAST, India, September 6, 2011–Trying to understand American society and politics without studying religion's role is probably like attempting research on the country’s food habits without considering its fast food addiction.

People in the Middle East and the subcontinent were intrigued by the unexpected inclusion of "Shariah" in America’s national conversation a few months back. Amy Sullivan writing in USA Today on June 12 noted how Republican presidential candidates, “felt the need to speak out against the menace of sharia."

Several prominent U.S. politicians got on and sheepishly off the sharia bandwagon.

They might have had more traction with another issue they should probably nip in the bud– right wing Hinduism in America bent on spreading ‘Hindutva,’ a Nazi inspired philosophy of hate from India. It is the brainchild of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a pseudo religious Hindu organization, which controls the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main political opponents to India’s ruling UPA Congress coalition of Sonia Gandhi.

David Briggs, writing in The Huffington Post (4/28/11) in an article titled, “Hindu Americans: The Surprising, Hidden Population Trends of Hinduism in the U.S.,” notes that in “the first effort to conduct a Hindu census in the United States, the Santa Barbara, Calif.- based Institute of American Religion discovered some 1,600 temples and centers with an estimated 600,000 practicing Hindus.”

“For better and worse, however, the latest incarnation of Hinduism in the United States has gone largely unnoticed by most Americans,” says Briggs, adding, “That number could easily rise up to the estimated 1.2 million who self-identify as Hindus.”

In his “Letter to A Young Hindu,” (www.passtheroti.com) Vijay Prashad, the George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and Professor of International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, writes: “More than a decade ago, I used the term "Yankee Hindutva" to describe the way Hindu chauvinism came into the United States. Eager to branch out to the Diaspora, the RSS and its subsidiaries ... took advantage of multiculturalism to build their foothold here. Not for the American audience an unadulterated anti-Muslim rhetoric (that would come only in some "safe" spaces, and more aggressively, after 9/11).”

Most Americans do not noticeably relate to other Americans on the basis of their religion as Indians do. My own view is, people are people, not Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, etc. However, not everyone is secure in a plain vanilla human identity – many people must tout a religious face.

Why isn’t humble, authentic faith in God, rather than being hooked to a religion, an adequate identity?

In India, the caste system still controls people; in America, denominational preferences have polarized many Americans.

In both America and India, the resurgence of a religious right wing is obvious in politics and society, but it is absurd to tar the American right with the same fundamentalist brush. It is poles apart from the Hindu right, which is marked by its dangerous fascist ‘Hindutva’ ideology. The assertion of a native Hindu tradition with a profound spiritual heritage is certainly justified, but its current rabid avatar in the RSS’ saffron color makes a mockery of an ancient belief.

Nonetheless, religion is an addiction in both America and India, and its conventions seem to have made one country very sexy and the other very sleazy. Half of all marriages in Hollywood obsessed America end in divorce, regardless of one’s religion. And Hindusthan, the Persian term geographically denoting India, is one of the most corrupt countries of the world.

The cliched ‘born again’ label may be despised by many Americans (and others), but American evangelicals are mainly identified for their strong support of socially conservative policies, being pro-Israel, anti-abortion, anti-same-sex marriage, and for sending missionaries worldwide. Not for the murder of minorities on home ground and the unscrupulous fascist politics that ‘Hindutvadis’ are known for in India.

After orchestrating modern India’s first state sponsored anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat as recently 2002, when several thousand Muslims and Hindus were massacred, today the Hindu right wing waits for another shot at power, as the main Opposition Party in the Indian Parliament.

Gandhi died for standing against these right wingers; he was proud of his own Hindu convictions, but he innovated with notably Christian influences, and Jainism, Buddhism and Islam.

Knowing how he rejected the Hindu right, it is distressing to see many middle class Indians reject the Mahatma’s spirituality, by consenting to the same political ideology that took his life.

Growing up in India, many of my closest friends were Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs; only much later did I discern that religious militancy exists in all religions. Fundamentalists carry their baggage with them wherever they go. It is intriguing how a mere suffix to a word, subverts what people believe in. One cannot link violence to Buddha or Christ, but you can find fanatics in Buddhism and Christianity, like you can in Islam and Hinduism.

The danger in India is real: If the fascist BJP plays its cards right, it has every opportunity of coming back to power in India, in 2014.

Is it Sharia that should give Americans cause for concern, or should they keep an eye on Hindutva as a potential Trojan Horse in America?

Amy Sullivan points out that, “politicians who cry "Sharia!" are engaging in one of the oldest and least-proud political traditions — xenophobic demagoguery. One of the easiest ways to spot its use is when politicians carelessly throw around a word simply because it scares some voters.”

American filmmaker Nina Paley who received death threats from the Hindu right in America for her animated movie, Sita Sings The Blues, (www.sitasingstheblues.com) is quoted by Saumya Arya Haas, in The Huffington Post, (7/25/11) as saying, “It's like calling the Ku Klux Klan "Christians." Calling Hindutvadis "Hindus" is especially misleading in the U.S., where people are mostly unaware of violent nationalist groups in India. Last I checked, Hinduism wasn't a religion of hate and intolerance. Hindutvadis' motives are political, not religious, and they hide behind a religious label. Not only does this confuse many Americans into thinking they have some legitimacy, it also, over the long run, harms real Hindus, who are nothing like Hindutvadis.”

Her movie, an adaptation of the epic "Ramayana" mythology, is a feminist interpretation of the epic loved by Hindus. Paley made the film biographical by including her own failed marriage.

Commenting on the opposition to the film’s screenings, Haas, the Executive Director of Headwaters/Delta, warns, “While I support anyone, of any or no faith, who wants to screen and discuss the film, this is a game-changer. These are Hindus being shut down, and shut out, by other Hindus. This no longer about an American filmmaker interpreting the Ramayana, or a feminist perspective on ancient texts. This isn't about colonialism or cultural appropriation. It's about a controlling group trying to bully their opinion into being the only opinion.”

My claim to Hinduism has been rejected by some because I believe [in] and advocate non-violence in its extreme form. They say that I am a Christian in disguise. I have been even seriously told that I am distorting the meaning of the Gita when I ascribe to that great poem the teaching of unadulterated non-violence.

My religion is a matter solely between my Maker and myself. If I am a Hindu, I cannot cease to be one even though I may be disowned by the whole of the Hindu population.

I still hold the view that I cannot conceive politics as divorced from religion. Indeed, religion should pervade everyone one of our actions. Here religion does not mean sectarianism. It means a belief in ordered moral government of the universe.

Hindutva India Blames Sikhs For Delhi Bombs

AS PREDICTED EARLIER BY DAL KHALSA INT'L THE HINDUTVA INDIAN MEDIA IS NOW TRYING TO BLAME SIKHS FOR THE DELHI BOMBS: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Delhi-HC-blast-Involvement-of-Sikh-groups-not-ruled-out/articleshow/9916709.cms
NEW DELHI: Investigators are taking a closer look at a few intelligence inputs over recent months that hinted at efforts by Sikh extremist groups to target the national capital.

In fact, some intelligence sources admitted in the wake of Wednesday's bomb blast that the only credible intelligence inputs in recent weeks about plans to target the national capital were about Sikh groups. As late as mid-July, intelligence agencies had received inputs that Sikh groups may try to carry out attacks in the wake of the President rejecting the mercy petition of Khalistan Commando Force terrorist Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

Inputs with various intelligence agencies had enough warning about remnants of Sikh extremism trying to target the capital and other parts of the country. It is not yet clear if it was a clever strategy, propped up possibly by Pakistan, to get the Sikh groups to unleash terror in India, and avoid unwanted international scrutiny.

A senior intelligence official said the latest terror input was about Pakistani handlers asking Sikh extremists to carry out attacks in India. It suited them politically too, given the high deniability factor involved in mobilizing a Sikh group to carry out attacks in India.

Sources said inputs spoke about Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Zindabad Force trying to revive in India and carry out attacks.

The last input was in middle of July, which said the terrorists could target New Delhi. This input, sources said, originated from Sikh groups in Canada. Another input, some time in March, spoke about the possibility of militant groups trying to carry out mayhem in Delhi, Rajasthan or Punjab.

Sources said there was also an alert about the possibility of a Sikh militant, jailed in Tihar, escaping while being taken to Punjab for a court case.

Officials insisted they were still not sure if a Sikh group could carry out such a high intensity blast in Delhi but admitted that the possibility could not be ruled out. All other alerts, especially regarding Muslim groups, were generic in nature. "It could be because we don't have credible inputs on Islamic terrorist groups," a source said.

Remnants of Sikh terrorism are mostly in Pakistan, in western nations such as Canada and some European countries.

BELOW IS OUR STATEMENT BEFORE THIS LIE OF A NEWS STORY CAME OUT https://www.facebook.com/notes/dal-khalsa-uk/dal-khalsa-uk-delhi-bomb-attack-carried-out-by-hindu-fascist-terror-outfits/10150272869461332

Dal Khalsa UK: Delhi Bomb Attack Carried Out By Hindu Fascist Terror Outfits

Dal Khalsa UK wishes to state that they fully believe without a doubt that the bomb attack in Delhi outside the Courts was carried out by Hindutvadi fascists. The pattern of attacks is exactly the same as previous attacks such as the Malegaon blasts & countless other bomb attacks across India over the last few years. While the Govt maintained that the blasts were carried out by foreign sponsors linked to Islamic groups , the truth always came out in the end that those who planted and carried the attacks were deep rooted fanatical terrorists linked to the RSS/Sangh Parivar.

We believe this case is no different and this is designed to frame a minority within India along with Bangladesh or Pakistan as the Indian authorities always do.The Indian state has totally failed in its responsibility to protect innocent hard working citizens from these Hindutvadis who even inspired Brevik to carry out the Norway Blasts & attacks after he visited Banaras. It seems very ironic that the court which lies in the heart of India's Captial Delhi had no CCTV ,one has to question this as a real terrorist or attack would not take in to account CCTV - they would want maximum damage,as seen in most terrorist attacks across the globe. The Indian Intelligence Services RAW /Hindutva Terrorists are no strangers to such blasts be it the Gujarat Burning of a of train of Hindu Pilgirms by Hindutvadis - which was blamed on Islamic Groups - led to the Muslim Genocide in 2002 ,the Samjhota Express Train Blasts blamed on Pakistani Militants - carried out by Indian Intelligence led by Lt Col Srikant Purohit ,the Malegaon & Mecca Masjid Blasts to which the Nazi Inspired Swami Aseemanand confessed to.Hindutvadis are the biggest threat to the peace sercurity & stability of South Asia ,with India being country which possesses nuclear weapons ,if a nuclear war breaks out with Pakistan - the Sikh Nation will suffer on both sides of the border as our homeland is split between India & Pakistan - it is improtant we realise the games which the Indian Govt will play to frame minorities such as the Sikhs,Muslims,Christains the left and others in pursuit of their dream of Hindi,Hindu,Hindustan - Hindutva a pure race.

Sant Samaj contrary to Sikh principles: Dal Khalsa

http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/sant-samaj-contrary-to-sikh-principles-dal-khalsa/841529/

Hoshiarpur Reaffirming that the term “Sehajdhari” has lost its relevance in Sikhism, Dal Khalsa said that even the term “Sant Samaj” was contrary to Sikh principles and philosophy. “In Sikhism, there exists only one Samaj and that is the Sikh Samaj (society)”, said H S Dhami, head of radical Sikh group. Ironically, the term Sant Samaj was the brainchild of those who did not adhere to the Sikh code of conduct approved by the Akal Takht and the SGPC, he added.

Dhami said that in reality, the Congress-led UPA government was helping the Badals to win the SGPC elections. Contrary to the general perception, it was Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who has always been looked as the “best bet” in the eyes of power that would be, he added.

Questioning the Centre over faux pas in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the issue, Dhami said there was more to it than meets the eyes. The statement by the Union Home Minister in the Lok Sabha was a cover up and a proper investigation was needed to expose the mischief, he claimed.

Replying to a question, he said their group believes that Sehajdharis were given voting rights in 1959 in direct violation of the letter and spirit of the Sikh Gurdwara Act-1925. “We strongly advocate that voting rights cannot be given to any non-Sikh under any circumstances,” he added.

Dal Khalsa : An open letter to Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India on separate Sikh Identity Issue

Since 1950, Indian leadership united in denying Sikhs of their separate identity and fundamental rights

An open letter to the Prime Minister,

Government of India

Respected Manmohan Singh,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

We, the Sikhs, over the years, have been facing the challenges posed by the strident anti-Sikh lobby and more specifically by the Hindutva elements questioning our unique and distinct identity. The Sikhs have expressed their concern and agony on the issue to all successive governments in the past but none has come forward to correct the constitutional wrong.

Three days back, the Law Minister Shri Salman Khursheed in your cabinet answering a query by Akali MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa in the Rajya Sabha dropped a bombshell on the Sikh community by rejecting the long pending demand to implement the provisions of the Anand Marriage Act enacted in 1909 but lying dormant ever since India framed its Constitution in 1950.

The rejection of the demand by the law ministry was not only illogical but also against all cannons of justice. The law minister has reportedly said seclusion of Sikhs from Hindu Marriage Act 1955 would invite similar demands from others including Jains, Buddhists. Also, seclusion of one community is against the directive principles contained in Article 44 of the Constitution which aims at bringing in a uniform civil code. Regrettably, the minister has forgotten deliberately or otherwise that there exist separate laws for Muslims, Christians, and Jews.

Earlier, the RSS was in the forefront in painting the Sikh identity with a Hindu brush. Now such anti-Sikh forces have found a friend in the Prime Minister who happens to be a Sikh. Since the formation of the Constitution, 61 years have passed but there has been no change in the mindset of Indian leadership, irrespective of their party affiliation they are united to deny the Sikhs of their separate identity. By refusing to accept the exclusive and separate Sikh identity, the Indian state has rubbed salt on the festering wounds of the Sikhs. While continuing with its discriminatory policies against the Sikhs, the state has once again given the impression that the decision makers in North and South Block had learnt no lessons from the tragic events of the recent past.

On one hand, your government though reluctantly had bowed before the crowd of 50,000 thousand people gathered around social activist Anna Hazare who was on hunger strike at Ramlilla ground. On the other, same number of people (app. 50,000) got perished in Punjab since 1978 while fighting for their just rights and against injustices, not a single contentious issue of Punjab has been resolved till date.

With your elevation to the exalted office of the prime minister, the identity of Sikhs might have got the exposure worldwide but it is ironic that within India itself the constitution is ambiguous on their distinct identity. Earlier, we had a President and now a prime minister from the Sikh community but even then the Constitutional discrimination continues. During Gaini Zail Singh’s tenure, the Indian state sent its army to storm Darbar Sahib in 1984 and now with you as political head of the country, the Indian state has dealt yet another blow to Sikh aspirations.

This rejection of Anand Marriage Act will surely awaken those who were in an illusion that "A Sikh Prime Minister will address the problems and challenges being faced by the community". For Sikhs nothing has changed: the same discriminative attitude and biased mindset still persists in the corridors of power.

For the past 60 years of Indian republic, the Sikhs have strived to find an independent and dignified place in the constitutional framework so as to uphold their exclusive and distinct identity.

BACKGROUND: It has been established beyond doubt that Sikhism is a separate religion and Sikhs are a distinct people. However, the framers of the constitution dealt a severe blow to the Sikhs by not according de jure recognition to this reality.

Article 25 of the Indian constitution gives Sikhs the right to wear the Kirpan, but Explanation II of Article 25 (2) (b) of the constitution still continues to classify Sikhs as Hindus. This is contrary to the recommendation of the Constitutional Review Committee in 1999.

The registration of marriage, adoption, succession, formation of a family business (as is possible for Hindu Undivided Family) -for all these Sikhs have to adopt a set of procedures incompatible with their belief systems. Indian Parliament has amended the Constitution at least 72 times. But not once did it consider amending it to grant the Sikh community its due status.

You are well aware that the Sikhs are a separate community having their own scriptures, history, culture, traditions, language, calendar, script and all that defines a ‘Nation’. The Sikh struggle to attain Sovereign self-rule is also based on the realization that ‘we as a ‘complete nation’ have a right to decide our own destiny’.

History and events have taken the Sikhs beyond the boundaries of the Indian Constitution to which the world is a witness. The Sikhs are recognized by the international community as a people striving for political independence. And this happened because of the struggle the Sikhs waged during the past three decades.

You may also be aware that the Pakistan has enacted a full-fledged Sikh Marriage Law since January, 2008, although Sikh population over there is less than 50,000. It may also interest you to know that they asked the Sikhs to propose the law and then adopted it verbatim without changing even a comma or full stop.

We are proud of our distinct and separate identity. The Sikhs need their own Personal law and the Anand Marriage Act. These issues are Constitutional matters that relate to our distinct identity and to get them implemented a Constitutional amendment to the Article 25 (b) (2) is required.

May I remind you that the demand to amend the Article 25 was included in the charter of demands, which became basis for the launch of Dharam Yudh Morcha in 1982 by the Shiromani Akali Dal, the party that is in power in Punjab today?

We seek your intervention in this case as the Sikhs have been struggling for long time against injustice, tyranny and state’s discrimination and will continue with the struggle till they achieve their rights and justice. Serious efforts need to be initiated by you in this regard.

Guru Rakha

Kanwar Pal Singh

Secretary for Political Affairs,

DAL KHALSA

NOTE- THE COPY OF THE LETTER IS RELEASED TO THE MEDIA AT PRESS MEET IN AMRITSAR ON MONDAY.
