Oldest Marathon Runner To Lift Olympic Torch
A Sikh who came to live in the UK in 1992 and began running marathons at the age of 86 is carrying the Olympic torch today.
The world's oldest marathon runner is carrying the Olympic torch through the streets of east London later today.
Fauja Singh, who is 101-years-old, will be undertaking the relay for
the second time - he carried the torch in Athens eight years ago.He has since grown attached to it, describing it as his child, and says he cannot wait to add another torch to his collection.
Born in Punjab in 1911, Singh came to the UK to stay with his son Sukhjinder in 1992. He began running at the age of 86 in order to keep himself occupied and ran his first marathon at the age of 89.
Singh has since completed six London marathons, two in Toronto - where he set eight track records - and the New York marathon.

There, in September 2011, he achieved his ninth track record, running 10,000 metres in 87 minutes.
Singh says he is spurred on by his faith and, on a physical level, his vegetarian diet helps him keep in shape.
His endeavours have attracted attention from around the world, with students from California currently following and filming him for a documentary that highlights his achievements.
"Fauja Singh is truly remarkable, unique even for he oozes with enthusiasm and passion for being active both in mind and body which is infectious to all who have come into contact with him, yet he remains humble and grateful to the powers above for allowing him to help others," said coach Harmander Singh.
To mark the special occasion of Singh carrying the Olympic torch, Sikhs all over the UK will congregate in the capital to hand out thousands of vegetarian meals along the 30-mile Olympic route from Greenwich Park to Waltham Forest Town Hall.
They will distribute free communal food (langar) in accordance with the Sikh principles of selfless service (seva).
Singh says his aim now is to run at the 2016 Olympics - when he will be 105 - to add to his torch collection.
Dal Khalsa UK Rejects So Called Radhaswami Apology
Dal Khalsa UK rejects the so called apology made to the Sikh Nation by the Radhaswami Hindutvadi Dera which was given out in the form of a press note by J C Sethi, the so called Radhaswami District Secretary of Amritsar.The apology states the following:
‘Due to some misunderstandings from the last few days an atmosphere of
tension has prevailed. In this respect we wish to clear that Radha Soami
Satsang Beas, has always held all the ten Sikh Gurus and Shri Guru
Granth Sahib in high esteem. Even then if feelings of somebody have
been hurt due to unintentional folly, we tender apology from the core of
our heart’.
The press note in Punjabi further said that ideology of the Dera is
based on love and we take different sections of the society along in our
endeavor to seek God. The Dera has stated that there was no intention
of hurting anybody’s sentiments even for an unknown reason.
The press note does not have any mention of the destroyed Gurdwara Sahib at Village Varaich nor does it mention the land of innocent farmers & villagers who's lands including houses have been illegally taken over & occupied by the Radhawami Dera the press note goes on to say that whatever has
happened has happened with complete earnestness and withholding the
respect and ‘Maryada’.
“Still if the Dera has become reason of some misunderstanding we extend an apology with all humility”
We ask what does the Cult Dera mean when it says 'whatever has
happened has happened with complete earnestness and withholding the
respect and ‘Maryada'?We don't know what so called Maryada or code of conduct they're referring to when two Gurdwaras have been confirmed to have been destroyed a third is on the verge of falling in to a trench dug by the Radhaswamis,several Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are missing,innocent Farmers/Villagers land/houses have been taken over which has driven them out & some have even committed suicide.
What are they making actual the apology for?When they haven't even owned up to the facts of what they have and are doing with State Support to attack the very fabric & grassroots of the Sikh Faith.
We ask all Sikhs to remain vigilant of these tactics which are designed to divert and subdue Sikh Activism,there will be no compromise with the Radhaswamis who are trying to create an illusion of being Pro Sikh to get away with Beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj on a daily basis.
The Sikh stance on this to the Radhaswami Cult & the Hindutva Indian State is crystal clear,the land of the innocent Farmers Villagers which is being illegally occupied by force should be rightfully returned along with all and any land on which there was a Gurdwara Sahib,not only this the Radhaswamis should stop diverting the natural course of the Rivers & streams to aquire land ...Full Stop!
The Mainstream Media call Sikhs radicals & extremists for asking for their basic rights,freedom of worship and for the rights of innocent farmers/villagers to live in freedom without fear from Cultist Deras such as the Radhasawmis.Yet the very Cults such as the Radhaswamis who under State Support take over the land of innocent farmers,cut off the electric to villagers and demolish Gurdwaras to expand their Deras are given Police Protection and are portrayed as peaceful.

Birmingham riot deaths: Eight men cleared
Haroon Jahan, Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir died in hospital after being hit by a car on 10 August
Eight men have been found not guilty of the murders of three men during last summer's riots in Birmingham.
Haroon Jahan, 20, and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul
Musavir, 31, died on 10 August after being hit by a car on Dudley Road
in Winson Green.All eight defendants denied they planned to kill the men in a co-ordinated attack using three cars and said the deaths were an accident.
Judge Mr Justice Flaux appealed for calm on the streets of Birmingham.
The judge had questioned the reliability of the evidence given in court by Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Tagg, the senior investigating officer.
This is now the subject of an Independent Police Complaints Commission inquiry.
'Tragic and pointless' The three victims were part of a group of about 80 men who said they had gathered on Dudley Road late on 9 August to defend local businesses after riots started in the Handsworth area.
Harry Ireland, CPS: "I hope that the community...can recover from this decision"
Hours after the deaths, Mr Jahan's father Tariq made an appeal asking people not to seek reprisal.
The judge paid tribute to the "wonderful" work of Mr Jahan, who listened in the public gallery as the verdicts were announced.
Later Mr Jahan sent a message once again to people in the community.
"I would like to appeal for peace and calm in our community in light of today's verdicts," he said.
He added the families do not wish to make any further comment regarding the court case at this time.
The prosecution alleged the eight defendants had planned to draw the men into the street before one of the cars struck them.

Holly Bush Road, Quinton, who was the driver of the car which hit the
victims, told the court he had been friends with Mr Musavir and Mr Ali
and had been trying to flee from a large group on Dudley Road at the
time.
Mr Justice Flaux described the incident as "a tragic and pointless loss of three young lives".He added: "However, by their verdicts the jury have decided that this was not a deliberate killing, that there was no plan to kill these three young men.
"It is important that, however strong feelings are within the community in Winson Green and adjacent areas, calm is maintained and that these verdicts are respected.
"Any other action would not be honouring those who died. In fact quite the reverse.
"What happened on the streets of Birmingham and other cities last August should never be repeated."
'Painstaking' Speaking to the victims' families, the judge said: "I know this has been really terrible for you, don't think I don't know that.
"Can I please ask you to remain calm and so far as it humanly possible to put everything that happened last August behind you and look to the future."

The eight men hugged and shook hands with each other as the verdicts were announced.Harry Ireland, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said there had been a "painstaking" investigation by the police.
He said the CPS was confident the evidence suggested there could be a realistic chance of a conviction, but added he respected the jury's decision.
Assistant Chief Constable Gary Cann echoed the judge's hope that there would be "reflection and reconciliation" within the community.
Asked if he was concerned about trouble in Winson Green in the light of the verdicts, he said: "We... recognise how difficult this has been for all the communities in the West Midlands, particularly those in Winson Green and the immediate surrounding area."
He said local neighbourhood teams would be providing extra support to people in the area.
"If we need some extra officers to help reassure people, then we'll provide those extra officers," he added.

VIDEO FOOTAGE OF SIKHS GATHERED AT PIND VARAICH WHERE THE RADHASWAMI HINDUTVA DERA HAS DESTROYED THE GURDWARA SAHIB,IT IS REPORTED 3 OTHER GURDWARAS HAVE ALSO BEEN DESTROYED.ALONG WITH THIS THE LAND OF FARMERS AND HOUSES OF VILLAGES HAVE FORCEFULLY BEEN TAKEN OVER BY RADHASWAMIS USING VARIOUS MEANS,THEY ARE NOW DIGGING TRENCHES AROUND PROPERTIES SO THOSE THAT LIVE THERE LEAVE AS THE HOUSE ITSELF WILL COLLAPSE,WHEN THE RAIN SEASON COMES ANOTHER GURDWARA WILL PERISH AS ITS OUTER WALL WILL BE WASHED AWAY DUE TO THE TRENCHES THAT HAVE BEEN DUG WHICH ARE UP TO 40 FOOT
