Sant Samaj contrary to Sikh principles: Dal Khalsa

Hoshiarpur Reaffirming that the term “Sehajdhari” has lost its relevance in Sikhism, Dal Khalsa said that even the term “Sant Samaj” was contrary to Sikh principles and philosophy. “In Sikhism, there exists only one Samaj and that is the Sikh Samaj (society)”, said H S Dhami, head of radical Sikh group. Ironically, the term Sant Samaj was the brainchild of those who did not adhere to the Sikh code of conduct approved by the Akal Takht and the SGPC, he added.

Dhami said that in reality, the Congress-led UPA government was helping the Badals to win the SGPC elections. Contrary to the general perception, it was Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who has always been looked as the “best bet” in the eyes of power that would be, he added.

Questioning the Centre over faux pas in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the issue, Dhami said there was more to it than meets the eyes. The statement by the Union Home Minister in the Lok Sabha was a cover up and a proper investigation was needed to expose the mischief, he claimed.

Replying to a question, he said their group believes that Sehajdharis were given voting rights in 1959 in direct violation of the letter and spirit of the Sikh Gurdwara Act-1925. “We strongly advocate that voting rights cannot be given to any non-Sikh under any circumstances,” he added.
