Patiala, Punjab (July 27, 2013): As per certain media reports a faction of Shiv Sena has demanded sedition charges against Sikh political prisoner Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana for raising pro-Khalistan slogans. As per information Harish Singla, the Vice-President of Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) Punjab has warned the Punjab government that if a case against Bhai Rajoana is not registered in this regard, their faction of Shiv Sena will stage protests against government across the state.

Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana court appearance at Rajpura on January 21, 2013

It is notable that Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was awarded death sentence in Punjab CM Beant Singh’s assassination (1995) case by a trial court. His death sentence was confirmed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, but a petition was moved before the President of India by Punjab’s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), controlled by SAD (Badal), in March 2012; as a result of which his execution was stayed till the pendency of the petition.
It must be noted that Bhai Rajoana had not defended himself in Indian courts and admitted openly that they had assassinated CM Beant Singh as he had unleashed the region of state terror against the civilian Sikh population of Punjab.
Bhai Rajoana is currently confined in Central Jail in Patiala and is facing the trial of a case under the Arms Act. He often raises “Khalistan Zindabad” slogans in the court complex when he is brought there for the hearing of the case.
According to a news reported by Punjab News Line (PNL) Harish Singla (Shiv Sena) said the police kept on watching as a mute spectator and did nothing to stop Rajoana (from raising pro-Khalistan slogans).
