Craig Scott, MP (Toronto-Danforth) delivers a statement in the House of
Commons on behalf of NDP Leader Tom Mulcair extending sympathies on the
28th anniversary of the tragic pogroms of 1984 that targeted the Sikh
community across India.
Jalandhar -
Slamming the Hindutva Indian system for failing to prosecute high and
mighty perpetrators of Nov 84 carnage, the Dal Khalsa has called upon
the UN to intervene for the sake of justice. The organization along
with other like minded bodies today squarely blamed the Hindutva Indian
system for bitterly failing to deliver justice to victims of Nov 1984
massacre of Sikhs even after 28 years of its occurrence. While judicial
process has began to show some results in bringing the perpetrators to
book in the cases of innocent killings of Muslims in Gujarat 2002, there
has been no sign of justice in the case of mad violence against the
Sikhs. The organizers were categorically of the view that how can
Sikhs expect justice from that state, which allowed the killings of
innocent Sikhs. Hundreds of activists associated with party’s youth
wing named ‘Sikh Youth of Punjab’ led by its president Ranbir Singh
today held a demonstration protesting against the Genocide and denial of
justice. They gathered at city’s busiest chowk to convey their concern
and message to passers by. Earlier, they performed Ardas at the
local gurdwara to pay homage to those who became victim of “politics of
genocide played by Hindutva Congress with the active connivance of
Hindutva state administration. The activists were carrying black
flags and placards on which it was imbibed “killings in Nov 1984, were
not riots but genocide. To draw attention of the people, they had a long
banner on which it was written “The state engineered the Nov 84
genocide, who will book the state. UN should intervene”. Addressing
the protestors, the leader of the radical party H S Dhami said the
justice was still a far cry. He said so far, by all standards, the
international community has let down the Sikh people. Through its
missions in Delhi, the UN and the five permanent members of UN Security
Council was witness to the black days of November when Sikhs were
slaughtered, maimed, women dishonored and children orphaned. “To the
best of our knowledge, no official statement or record exist admonishing
India’s poor political and police governance during that particular
period”. While talking with media party spokesperson Kanwar Pal
Singh said howsoever late it may be, we still seek world powers
intervention and influence on India to punish the guilty. The UN should
investigate the role of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Home
Minister P V Narsima Rao in absentia for allegedly engineering the
massacre. The poster titled “Who is guilty” addressed to the civil
society was distributed to all passerby. The questions were raised that
includes “do you know about the barbarism of the Hindutva Congress &
RSS Fanatical hooligans of Delhi? Is India a civilized society? Is
India a secular country? Leader of SAD (Panch Pardani) Harpal Singh
Cheema and Baba Ajit Singh Lohgarh, SYP leader Prabhjot Singh also
participated in the demonstration.

Karva Chauth is today and is a Hindu practice where women/girls fast for their Husbands or nowadays even boyfriends,
however some people that consider themselves a Sikh follow this
practice too...please let us re-affirm the message from our Sikh Guru
Sahib, Dhan Dhan Shiri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, Maharaj clearly rejected the idea of fasting:
ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ॥ ਨਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਨਾ ਓਹਿ ਰੰਡ ॥
She who partakes in forsaking grain and doing such a hypocrisy is neither married nor widowed.
Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 873.
varath naem karai bahu bhaathee || keeping fasts and making vows of all sorts
nehee thul raam naam beechaar || - none of these are equal to the contemplation of the Name of the Lord,
naanak guramukh naam japeeai eik baar ||1|| O Nanak, if, as Gurmukh, one chants the Naam, even once. ||1||
Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 265
You cannot be both Sikh and Hindu? You choose are you going to follow Sikhi or another faith??
We do not hold anything against any faith, however we do humbly request
Sikhs to follow the Sikh path properly, pretty simple really.
Thanks. Our Guru has taken us away from Pakhand such as this - STAY TRUE
TO YOUR ROOTS!
Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji ordered his Sikhs to stay away from the way of the Brahmin - Bipran Ki Reet.If you are true KAURS of Guru Sahib you will never follow the way of the Brahmin and never hold useless rituals/fasts.

SKY NEWS COVERS THE PETITION IN THE AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT IN REGARDS TO THE 1984 SIKH GENOCIDE
Hundreds of Sikhs visit the Australian parliament on the 28th anniversary of the Delhi pogroms as protests took place in India.
Protesters took to the streets in Delhi to mark the anniversary
An Australian MP has called for the country to recognise the killing of more than 37,000 Sikhs in India in 1984 as a genocide.
Warren Entsch tabled a petition of more than 4,000 signatures, calling
for the government to recognise "that an organised campaign of horrific
violence took place against Sikhs in November 1984".
Around 300 Australian Sikhs sat in the parliament's public gallery to
see the motion be put forward on the 28th anniversary of the events.
It calls for the violence, rape and killings to be recognised formally
and urges the Indian government to bring those responsible for
organising the campaign of violence to justice. Protestors in Delhi call for justice
Mr Entsch compared the events in Delhi to the persecution of the Jews
by the Nazis saying: "the continued denial of such historical injustices
can only encourage modern-day crimes against humanity."
He paid tribute to the growing and affluent Sikh community who have
been a "vibrant part of the Australian cultural mosaic since 1897".
He said he felt it was the right thing to do after being told about
Sikh culture, tradition and religion by his friend Daljit Singh, adding:
"That is why I commenced this journey two years ago and I hope our aims
will be taken in that context." Current Indian PM Manmohan Singh visited the funeral spot of Indira Gandhi
Daljit Singh said: "For Warren Entsch to take this issue to parliament
is not only unforgettable for the Sikhs in Australia, but for the whole
Sikh nation around the world. To speak against cruelty and genocide is a
service to mankind."
It is the first time such a petition about the controversial killing of
thousands of Sikhs has been put forward outside of the sub-continent. The assassination of Indira Gandhi was met with violence against Sikh
In India survivors of the atrocities marched through the capital in
protest at no prosecutions being brought forward despite numerous
commissions set up to investigate the violent mob attacks.
In August 2005, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh apologised in the Indian
parliament for the attacks and forced the resignation of Congress
minister Jagdish Tytler, who is alleged to have been involved.
The orchestrated violence against Sikhs in the capital Delhi took place
after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by two of her
Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984.
Her death came five months after she ordered the Indian army to storm
the holy Harimandir Sahib (or Golden Temple) complex in Amritsar and
other Sikh places of worship in the Punjab where armed Sikhs were
seeking redress for their grievances.
Dal Khalsa’s youth wing Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) will be
holding a demonstration in Jalandhar on November 3 to mark the 28th anniversary
of 1984 anti-Sikh massacre in Delhi and elsewhere.
In a statement released to the media here today, Dal Khalsa spokesperson
Kanwarpal Singh and SYP head Ranbir Singh said the objective of the protest
rally was to express community’s pain and anguish against the massacre and
concern over the denial of justice to victims besides performing Ardas in
memory of those who had been killed in a systematic and planned manner.
Elaborating about the progarmme, they said the peaceful sit-in led by party
head H S Dhami would be organized at Guru Nanak Mission chowk for two hours.
However, they clarified that traffic would not be disturbed. They said leaders of other Panthic groups
would also participate.
They said that Sikh Diaspora has cried hoarse, year after year, for the last
28years, that such gross injustice should shame the rulers of the country, but
to no avail.
Taking a dig at nine investigative commissions set up by various Union Governments
to identify the perpetrators and look into the genesis of the 1984 genocide, they
said all ended up as a damp squib. It’s ironic that all attempts to get justice
within the legal framework of the Indian system for the victims of 1984
anti-Sikh carnage have failed, they rued. Kanwar Pal Singh said theirs group
would be sending memo to United Nations and 5 permanent members of the UN
Security Council to seek their intervention

Hurricane Sandy: 'Frankenstorm' Heads For New York
Mayor Michael Bloomberg warns New Yorkers to prepare for a "massive" storm as Hurricane Sandy threatens the US East Coast.
New York has called up 1,000 extra troops from the National Guard as "superstorm" Hurricane Sandy bears down on the city.
Heavy rain and strong winds have started lashing the northeast of the
US, with the public safety director of Atlantic City declaring that the
majority of his city is "underwater".
As forecasters warn New York could bear the brunt of the one-of-a-kind
storm - dubbed a "Frankenstorm" - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave
last-minute advice to citizens before the "massive" hurricane hits. Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave advice to citizens unable to leave New York
Urging people to follow evacuation orders if they still can, he said:
"If you don't evacuate, you are not only endangering your life, you are
also endangering the lives of the first responders who are going to
rescue you."
He said around 3,000 people have reached 76 emergency public shelters
around the city, with a combination of the storm surge, coastal flooding
and a ferocious blizzard posing the greatest threat.
Sandy is on a collision course with two other weather systems leading
to fears it could develop into one of the worst storms on record in the
US. Floodwater has inundated the Atlantic City boardwalk (Twitter.com/hoeboma)
The storm is threatening up to 50m people on the heavily populated East
Coast, and forecasters say it could wreak havoc over 800 miles
(1,280km) from the Atlantic coast to the Great Lakes.
Authorities are warning New York could be hit with an 11ft (3.3-metre)
wall of water that could swamp parts of lower Manhattan, flood subway
tunnels and cripple the network of electrical and communications lines
that are vital to the nation's financial centre. :: Live Updates on Hurricane Sandy
Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane, is currently about 380 miles (615km)
southeast of New York City, with winds of about 85mph (140kph). Flooding in Norfolk, Virginia
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said it strengthened as it
turned toward the coast on a predicted path toward New York, Washington,
Baltimore and Philadelphia. It is moving at 15 mph (24 kph).
The centre of the storm is expected to come ashore on Monday night in
New Jersey, meaning the worst of the storm surge could be in the
northern part of that state and in New York City and on Long Island.
The massive storm, which is hundreds of miles across, is set to stay
until at least mid-week, bringing hurricane winds, flooding rains and
snow in the Appalachian mountains. President Obama faced driving rain as he returned to Washington
Hundreds of thousands of people have already evacuated coastal areas, but much focus remains on New York.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo urged residents to use common sense and stay indoors.
"The worst is still coming," he said. People have been ordered to leave low-lying coastal areas
New York and other cities shut down schools and suspended all train,
bus and subway services on Sunday night because of the risk of flooding.
Nearly the entire coastline of Staten Island has been evacuated. Parts
of lower Manhattan, like Battery Park and Ground Zero, have also been
evacuated amid the threat of flooding.
All US stock markets will be closed on Monday and possibly Tuesday, the
operator of the New York Stock Exchange said, reversing an earlier plan
that would have kept electronic trading going on Monday.
A state of emergency has already been declared in nine states - including New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. The Belle Harbor section of the Queens borough of New York
US President Barack Obama cancelled a planned campaign appearance in
Florida and returned to Washington to oversee the federal government's
response to the ever-threatening hurricane.
In a statement from the White House, he told those affected "do not
delay", if asked to evacuate from their homes ahead of a storm with
"potentially fatal" consequences.
He said he was not worried about the impact of the crisis on the
election and said: "This is going to be a big storm, a difficult storm,
but the great thing about America is when we go through times like this
we all pull together."
His election rival Mitt Romney announced he would cancelled planned
campaign appearances on Monday night and throughout Tuesday as the
nation's attention turns to the storm.
Airlines have cancelled more than 7,600 flights, with British Airways,
Virgin and American Airlines have halted some departures to the eastern
coat of the US.
As the hurricane approached the coast, rescuers have saved 14 crew members of HMS Bounty stranded on lifeboats near the eye of storm - but two remain missing.
Sandy was blamed for 69 deaths in the Caribbean before it began travelling northward parallel to the eastern seaboard.
