November 11th marks Remembrance Day each year to pay tribute to the sacrifices of each fallen soldier who fought bravely during the two World Wars. It was during these wars when thousands of young Sikh men enlisted into the British Army, carrying on a proud tradition of bravery and valour.

Working alongside the Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail (ASHT), the ‘Sher Soorma’ project has been carefully planned for the past six months in order to ensure that the project pays perfect tribute to the Sikh Regiment.

The powerful song has been sung by Dev Dhillon, who appears courtesy of Aman Hayer. Dev Dhillon has painstakingly written the song to ensure that ‘Sher Soorma’ represents perfectly the Sikh Regiment and its inspiring role in our history.

The song will be supported by a high quality video directed by Guvy Heer, which will aim to try and re-educate those who are currently un-aware of our proud, yet under-represented history. To support the release a special T-Shirt is being released which will be supported by some of the most respected names in the Bhangra industry.

10% of all income raised, including; iTunes sales, T-Shirt sales, PPL & PRS will go to the Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail, who do an invaluable job in promoting Sikh history.

The main university in the region has claimed that 70% of young Punjabi men are hooked on drugs or alcohol.

The problem is at its worst along the border with Pakistan where heroin originating from Afghanistan is smuggled into the country.

Sardar Manmohan Singh Ji Khalsa Vice President Dal Khalsa International (Centre) With Pakistani PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani & Other Cabinet Ministers & Sikh Leaders

LAHORE: A delegation of Sikh representatives met with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday and presented him with a list of their demands.

The prime minister reiterated his government’s commitment to protecting the rights of minorities and women. Indian Sikh leader Sardar Swinder Singh complained to the PM stating the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) had sold land belonging to the Gurdwara Ramdas at Choona Mandi. Singh said that the construction of a plaza on the plot of land had already started.

“In the Sikh religion, the land of any gurdwara is never sold and only another gurdwara can be built on the land,” Singh said.

Gilani immediately asked ETPB chairperson Asif Hashmi to stop construction on the proposed plaza and assured the Sikh community that the land would be restored to them.

Sardar Swinder Singh also told the prime minister that some influential locals had encroached upon the land of Gurdwara Bhai Taro Singh at Naulakha Bazaar. The PM assured him that the land would be re-possessed and returned to the original owners. Asif Hashmi informed the PM that some clerics had occupied the gurdwara’s land and that he would try to resolve the matter amicably.

Singh said that PM has assured him that all gurdwaras in Pakistan would be made functional. He also asked the PM to allow members of the Sikh community to celebrate all their religious events in Pakistan.

He said that the PM had assured the delegation all efforts would be made to grant this wish. Prime Minister Gilani told the Sikh community that if India granted Pakistan permission to establish a counsulate at Amritsar the Sikh community would get visas for Pakistan more easily.

Singh demanded that visas be issued to all Sikhs’ whose passports said that they were born in ‘undivided India’. Gilani asked ETPB’s chairman Asif Hashmi to ensure that Sikhs who were born in Pakistan before partition were issued visas on a priority basis. The Sikh community’s demand to be provided residence in Lahore was accepted by the PM.

Dr Manmohan Singh of Dal Khalsa of UK, Dr Pritpal Singh of USA, ETPB’s additional secretary, PSGPC’s president Sardar Sham Singh and Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti also met with the prime minister.

“The government believes in promoting inter-faith harmony and the relations between the Sikh and the Muslim communities in Pakistan are a very good representative of our commitment,” Gilani said.

Dal Khalsa flays Akal Takht Jathedar for changing Guru Teg Bahadur Martyrdom date

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The Dal Khalsa castigated the recent decision of Akal Takht jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh to change the date of martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur from Nov 24 to Dec 10.

Party secretary Kanwar Pal Singh contested the argument given by the jathedar while changing the date of the gurpurab. “In fact, the problem has occurred because Guru Nanak’s gurpurab was still being celebrated as per Bikrami calendar despite the adoption of Nanakshahi calendar. Instead of solving the problem for all times to come by fixing the date of Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary as per Nanakshahi calendar, it’s ironic that the jathedar was upsetting the date of other gurpurab. Calling the decision as arbitrary, he blamed jathedar for making the matter worst.

Pertinently, the jathedar while altering the date has given the argument that “many Sikhs were finding it difficult to make arrangements for two historic dates in their calendar which fellwithin two days of each other”.

The organization made an appeal to the Sikh Diaspora in particular and citizens of India in general to observe the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur as ‘Human Rights and Religious Freedom’ day on Nov 24.

Asserting that Guru Teg Bahadur was in fact ‘dharam di chadar (cover for religion), he said the guru tasted martyrdom to fight against tyranny and to protect the oppressed class irrespective of their

religion and caste. He said most of the Sikh history has been either written by non-Sikhs or under the influence of ruling elite. He urged the Sikhs to rewrite their history free from outside influence.

Dal Khalsa UK wishes to state along with the above that our so called leaders need to get grips with reality and stop acting as tools for Hindutva India & its plan on destroying the Sikhs. For far too long they have worked in the interests of the Hindu govts in power be it not speaking up for Sikh rights or getting rid of the iconic Nanakshahi Calendar in favour of Sikh Gurpurabs being marked using the old Hindu method.

Its about time the Panth got together and liberated Sri Akal Takht Sahib - and got rid of such Jathedars ,as long as our command and control centre is not free we will face serious challenges from within due to external forces.
